Make God Known

This is YWAM’s second value.

“YWAM is called to make God known throughout the whole world, and into every arena of society through evangelism, training and mercy ministries. We believe that salvation of souls should result in the transformation of societies, thus obeying Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations. “

Why should we make God known?

I grew up in a Christian home and had always heard of the gospel and what Jesus did for me. It always pulled on my heart in a way I couldn’t explain. It’s like reading the news when a mom saves her kids- it moves you, it stirs up compassion and emotions within you. The gospel is the most sacrificial true story you will ever read or hear about. I believe that when we begin to grasp and understand the full extent of what Jesus did for us on the cross and how it affects our own lives, we can begin to see the importance of us sharing it with others.

I have shared the gospel with a man who was against it and didn’t know why he needed Jesus. That same man had excruciating pain in his back and was told that his back was “permanently” tilted forwards by doctors. I asked if I could pray for his back and I prayed multiple times, the pain going away a little bit more each time I prayed. By the end of the night, this same man was crying for he had encountered the reality of Jesus in a personal way. The gospel transformed his life, never to be the same!

The impact of the gospel is life changing- how the lost become found, how the orphan has a Father, how the broken get healed, and how the purposeless find meaning. In the light of these truths we begin to understand the importance of the story we share. It is simply a life changing story we get the privilege of knowing and sharing.

How has making God known changed your life?

I grew up as a missionary kid in China. All I knew about God I learned from my parents sharing who He was through generosity, love, acts of service, healings, and witnessing miracles. It not only shaped my childhood, but it has molded me into who I am today. When I started my sophomore year of highschool we moved to Norway. This is when I personally began to have a passion to evangelise, to truly share what the Bible said about Jesus. However, I had no confidence to pursue it and I didn’t want to step out and share because I was so bound up by fear for many years. I came and did a DTS on the Gold Coast in Australia, and during my time there my fear of man was broken. I began to step out in the passion God placed in me little by little by simply sharing what He did for us. I realized it wasn’t something scary but it was the opportunity for others to know Jesus, and what they chose to do with that option was up to them.

During my DTS we had a three-month missions trip to Vietnam and Thailand, and ever since then my perspective on life has changed and is now geared towards making Jesus known. I am currently a missionary with YWAM Gold Coast with a renewed passion for making Jesus known and loving it!
