Why I Am Thankful For YWAM Gold Coast

Why I Am Thankful For YWAM Gold Coast

Now that I’ve been here with YWAM Gold Coast for just under a year, I’ve begun to notice some things. Things that make me realize how thankful I am for this base.

When I came to the Gold Coast, I never imagined falling in love with this place like I did. But it’s not just this place, so I’ve decided to write three reasons why I am thankful for YWAM Gold Coast.

  1. How they do Relationships.

YWAM Gold Coast is incredible with relationships. I’m not talking about setting people up, although there is a saying… Young Women After Men. 🙂 I’m talking about value. They honor what God has to say about relationships and try with all of their might, to bring down what God says and apply it at the base. I have never met people so patient, so kind, so loving, so generous, so fun, and it’s because of the Jesus.

When I came on my DTS, I was always so afraid of people not speaking to me because they were mad at me. I was afraid of that because that is how I was treated with people who were close to me and walked with the Lord. But I realized that the people here at YWAM Gold Coast, who are trying their best to be like Jesus, who practically apply loving the Lord into their own lives, who have a relationship with him, won’t do that. They rise above not talking to someone because they are mad. They take the mature way out. And the fix them the biblical way:

“If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector. -Matthew 18:15-17

They will take a step back, evaluate the situation, and when things have calmed down, then they will come and talk about it. Of course, if things don’t happen like that, (which they don’t because we are human and we fail) they come, repent, and ask for forgiveness. They love without failing. They give their all in relationships, and in investing because that is what Jesus does.

2.  The Work Environment

The work environment here at YWAM Gold Coast is something that you normally don’t have. When I first arrived, we made it a point that every day, for at least an hour a day, we would have “Family Time.” It was at a time that we all just gathered together, put work aside, and hung out, as a family. Now, things have moved around as we have become busier, and we now have a slotted time, once a week, to do relationship building. That means that we again, honor relationships. We can go with people that we don’t really know, or anyone that we want, and spend an hour doing life with them.

The work environment here is one that you don’t normally find. We choose to honor and serve one another before work. God comes first though. I am never afraid to take a thirty-minute break from work to actually go and spend time with Jesus if I am feeling overwhelmed. It’s not just a workplace, it’s a partnership in work with Jesus. Everything that is done on the base, is done unto the Lord.  And it’s done with people who are willing to do things for you. Here at YWAM Gold Coast, we do not work for personal gain. We are all trying to bring Heaven to Earth through our work. Therefore, you will always, always, have a hand that is ready to help whenever you need it.

The third reason that I love YWAM Gold Coast, is because THEY LOVE JESUS. It’s evident in everything that they do and say. They make it a priority to actually spend time with Jesus, to get together as a whole community and do things for him. They are trying their best to be just like him. They will continually point you towards him, no matter what you are going through. They walk in the Spirit, they are eager to pray, they seek Him daily. They are hungry for the Lord, and they are anticipating His arrival. YWAM Gold Coast does not just say they love Jesus, but they show it. They show it through their actions, through the values they hold, through their words, through the programs that they run.

Through and through, YWAM Gold Coast has represented to me what it looks like to be a front-runner in the race for Jesus. And because of that, I will never look back. I never want to burn because someone told me too. I want to forever serve and love others because of what Jesus has done for me. I want to always be a front-runner and I never want to look back.

I may trip over my feet, and let some pass me, but I will always, always be ready to run the race that the Lord has me on.

Serving with YWAM Gold Coast for the past year (almost), has been something that has changed my life. I had to sum up why I love it in just three reasons, but there are many, many more reasons why.  But I also want to say, yes I love this place, but we are humans, and we all mess up. YWAM Gold Coast has its flaws like every other base, but we embrace the change, we embrace what God is saying, and we embrace every opportunity that we can to be more and more like Jesus.
