Family
What is family? Is it the people with the same genes as you? Is it the people who developed and nurtured you? Or is it instead the people who have you back, no matter what. The people who are there for you regardless of what you say, what you think, or what you do. That’s family to me.
Family isn’t always easy, because it’s love. It can be hard to love when you don’t always agree with someone, but Jesus never put conditions on His love, so why should we?
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13
Christians are not created to live in a vacuum, instead we are meant to surround ourselves with our brothers and sisters. Your family not only strengthens your walk with Jesus, but it gives you a sturdy foundation to take a leap of faith.
YWAM has a certain unique beauty of bringing together people from all over the globe, with hundreds of different languages, backgrounds, and cultures, bringing them together into one family. The differences seem to fall away when you see the single thing we all have in common, we are fully in love with Jesus. At YWAM Gold Coast we are Australian, American, Paraguayan, Danish, Canadian, and Belgian; but before any of that we are Family. Diving into missions seems so much less intimidating when you know your family is there with you, cheering you on, calling you higher, further, and deeper into what Holy Spirit is doing.
